All living beings take something out of the outside world, turn it into themselves, and then give something back. This is the job of the digestive system.
The digestive system is a 30 foot muscular tube , lined with epithelial cells that secrete enzymes. It’s evolutionarily very ancient, and it’s also very important. In fact, it’s the central system around which all other body systems work.
Stretches such as twists, side bends and forward folds can help it work better. They create gentle pressure on your stomach and intestines, encourages circulation, reduce bloating and relieve overall abdominal pressure.
Stretching also decreases stress, which allows your gut to rest and take a breather from its 24/7 job.
2) THE SCIENCE OF STRETCHING
Stretching activates nerves beneficially, and also produces chemical cascades of endorphins, Stretching can even change how your DNA expresses itself.
In a yoga class, your entire body gets a good stretch, including places you may not have realised even existed ❤
Of course, you don’t want to overdo the stretching, or you might fall to pieces 🙂 Getting the balance between stretch and stability is important. A good yoga class will do just that.
3)YOGA TO COMBAT STRESS, ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION
Modern-day living has many of us feeling disconnected from the Earth, ourselves and each other. In our Internet-driven society and culture, in many ways, we have especially disconnected from our bodies, even our breath. This does not feel good, in fact, it can create dizzying feelings of anxiety and stress.
Yoga puts us in touch with our body, our breath, our natural rhythms and the Earth. It can connect us with each other and remind us of what is good in ourselves without too much effort at all.

4) YOGA, PILATES AND MEDITATION AS A SELF CARE SYSTEM DURING THE LOCKDOWN PERIOD
As we go down into lockdown again, the weather is not so great, many of us are tired and stressed, so self-care is going to be key.
Whether you are attending via Zoom (which also facilitates a felt sense of community whilst locked down) or you are coming in person, a good yoga class literally stabilises your nerves and revitalises your energy. Yoga has the ability to generate well-being and positive emotions, like no other exercise I have come across.
Pilates gives your body a satisfied. whole-body workout feel, and meditation helps you calm down and centre, even in the most trying of circumstances.
